Madison, which was founded in 1836 and incorporated in 1856, is located on the South West side, North West of Racine. It has an estimated population of 191, 262 people and an approximate size of 57.8 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of government, services, wholesale and retail trade. It is home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
