Spokane, which was founded in 1810 and incorporated in 1881, is located on the East Side of the state. It has an estimated population of 177, 196 people and an approximate size of 55.9 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, manufacturing, health care and retail trade. It is home to Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Whitworth College, Washington State University-Spokane and Spokane Community College.
