Montpelier, which is the states’ capitol, was established in 1791 and incorporated in 1895, is located a little north of the center of the state. It has an estimated population of 8, 247 people and an approximate size of 10.3 square miles. The economy here is made up of government, services, finance, insurance and real estate and manufacturing. It is home to Vermont College of Norwich University, Woodbury College, New England Culinary Institute and the Community College of Vermont.
