Dallas, which was founded in 1841 and incorporated in 1871, is located on the North East side of the state, East of Ft. Worth. It has an estimated population of 1, 006, 877 people and an approximate size of 333 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, trade and manufacturing. It is home to Southern Methodist University, the University of Dallas and the University of Texas at Dallas.
