Austin, which was founded in 1835 and incorporated in 1839, is located in the center of the state. It has an estimated population of 465, 622 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, government and wholesale and retail trade. It is home to the University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward’s University and Houston-Tillotson College.
