Nashville, which was founded in 1779 and incorporated in 1784, is located in the northern central region of the state. It has an estimated population of 488, 374 people and an approximate size of 480 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, wholesale and retail trade and manufacturing. It is home to Vanderbilt University, Fisk University and Tennessee State University.
