Salem, which was founded in 1848 and incorporated 1860, is located on the West side of the state, between Eugene and Portland. It has an estimated population of 107, 786 people and an approximate size of 41.5 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of agriculture, lumber, trade and government. It is home to Willamette University, Chemeketa Community College, Western Baptist Bible College and Tokyo International University. (branch)
