North Carolina, which
is known as the Tar Heel State and Old North State, was admitted
into the Union on November 21, 1789. The State Capitol is Raleigh.
Other major cities include Charlotte and Greensboro. According
to the latest census, North Carolina has an estimated population
of 8,049,313 people and an approximate size of 53,821 square
miles. The economy is primarily made up of textiles, agriculture,
tobacco, tourism and manufacturing. The State Flower is the Dogwood
and the State Bird is the Cardinal. Esse Guam Videri
(which means to be rather than to seem) is the State motto.
