Welcome... to Van Buren New York!
The Town of Van Buren was established in the
year 1829. it has an estimatd population of 13,000 people and
an approximate size of 35.7 square miles. It is located south
of Lysander, and west of Onondaga lake. The main routes of travel
are State Routes 48, 90 and 690. The first permanent settler was
John Wilson, from Ireland. Several important roads crossed this
town, and played a powerful role in the development of this county.
Because of the attraction of its locality, and the construction
of the Erie Canal, settlement grew rapidly, and by 1816, roads
and highways were considerably extended. The Seneca River was
heavily traveled past this town long before its westward course
was explored. After the close of the civil war, Van Buren became
mainly an agricultural community. You can still see much of the
untouched heritage and history in this town.
