Welcome... to North Syracuse New York!
The Village of North Syracuse was established
in the year 1880, and It has an approximate population of 7,500
people. It was originally called Centerville, and is located 2
miles north of Hancock International Airport. The main routes
of travel are State Routes 11, 81, and 481. Being the first village
north of Syracuse, it was appropriate to name it "North Syracuse".
When Indians were the primary inhabitants in this Country, an
Indian Footpath went from Pennsylvania up to the St. Lawrence
River, and passed through the center of N. Syracuse, which is
now Rt. 11. In 1844, the first plank road was built on Rt. 11.
It was 16 & 1/2 miles long and 8 feet wide. Shortly after
the Syracuse Northern Railroad was built in 1871, the plank road
was abandoned from Central Square to Brewerton. Within the Village,
residents and visitors may enjoy any of six parks for various
events such as Easter Egg Hunts, concerts, sports of all kinds
or just relaxing with friends.
