Welcome... to Marcellus New York!
Marcellus was established in the year 1794.
It has an estimated population of 6,400 people, and has an approximate
size of 35 square miles. It is located on the lower west side
of Onondaga County, between the town of Skaneateles and the Town
of Onondaga, in the valley, roughly 13 miles from Syracuse. The
main routes of travel are State Routes 174 and 175. The present
village is about one tenth of its original size. It was originally
made up of the Towns of Marcellus, Camillus, Elbridge, Van Buren,
Skaneateles, Geddes and parts of Spafford, Otisco, Onondaga and
the western half of Syracuse. One of the famous people from Marcellus
was Dr. Dan Bradley. He was the personal physician of the King
of Siam. Two industries that employed many people were Stone Mills
and Woolen Mills. In the village is a clock, which was built in
1909 by Mr. and Mrs. George W. Case. This clock has a six foot
wide face and three foot long wooden hands. In 1962, the Citizens
Club, Rotary Club and Village Board electrified the clock. Today,
Marcellus is basically a cultural village, with residents such
as college professors, writers, artists and other professionals.
It has good Government, great schools, fine churches and many
shops.
