Welcome... to Manlius New York!

The Town of Manlius was established in March of 1794. It has an estimated population of 28,000 people and an approximate size of 67.4 square miles. It is located on the eastern edge of Onondaga County, and the main routes of travel are State Routes 92, 5 and 290. The Village of Manlius was established in 1839, and it’s main routes are State Routes 92 and 173. In the mid 1800’s, cotton, wool and saw mills, iron works and tanneries were some of the businesses in the Town and Village of Manlius. In 1825, the Erie Canal ran across the Town, and then created a partnership in travel in 1839 when the railroad was built. In 1908, the Topp brothers, William and Jae, built an airplane in their shop on Mill Street, only five years after the first Wright Brothers flight. In the 1940’s, the railroad yard became one of the largest in the northeast, and handled a majority of transfers for all of Northern New York. Between 1960 to 1970, the Village of Manlius was the fastest growing village in New York State. In 1994, the Town of Manlius celebrated it’s 200th anniversary.
