Welcome... to Central Square New York!
The Village of Central Square was established
in the year 1890. It has an estimated population of 1,700 people
and an approximate size of 1.1 square miles. It is located in
the southeastern part of the town of Hastings, County of Oswego,
between Fulton and Constantia. The main routes of travel are State
Routes 11, 49 & 81. At one time, Central Square consisted
of farms which were later divided into village lots and houses
were built while the farms moved out into the country. The first
methods of travel were Indian foot paths, which later became plank
roads. One of which ran from Salina to Central Square, being 16
miles long, and was the first commercial plank road in the United
States. The portion that ran from Brewerton to Central Square
was abandoned in 1873, two years after the opening of the Syracuse
Northern Railroad in 1871. This became as we know it today as
State Route 11.
