Newark, which was established in 1666 and incorporated in 1836, is located North West of Jersey City. It has an estimated population of 275, 221 people and an approximate size of 23.8 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of manufacturing, distribution, trade, services and publishing. It is home to Rutgers University - Newark Campus, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Essex Community College.
