Portsmouth, which was established in 1623 and incorporated in 1849, is located on the East coast of the state. It has an estimated population of 25, 925 people and an approximate size of 15.6 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of government, retail and services, fishing and agriculture and tourism. It is home to the Extension Campus of New Hampshire College.
