Springfield, which was founded in 1830 and incorporated in 1838, is located on the South West corner of the state. It has an estimated population of 140, 494 people and an approximate size of 68 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing and government. It is home to South West Missouri State University.
