Missouri, which is
known as the Show Me State, was admitted into the Union on August
10, 1821. The State Capitol is Jefferson City. Other major cities
include Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield. According to the
latest census, Missouri has an estimated population of 5,595,211
people and an approximate size of 69,709 square miles. The
economy is primarily made up of manufacturing, trade, finance,
insurance, real estate and services. The State Flower is the Hawthorn
and the State Bird is the Bluebird. Solar Populi Suprema
Lex Esto (which means the welfare of the people shall be
the supreme law) is the State motto.
