Lansing, which was founded in c. 1835 and incorporated in 1849, is located in the center of the state, East of Grand Rapids. It has an estimated population of 127, 321 people and an approximate size of 32.8 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of government, trade, services and manufacturing. It is home to Michigan State University (in East Lansing) and Lans Community College.
