Massachusetts, which is known as the Bay State, Old Colony, was admitted into the Union on February 6, 1788. It's Capitol City is Boston. Other major cities include Lowell, Springfield and Worcester. According to the latest census, Massachusetts has an estimated population of 6,349,097 people and an approximate size of 10,555 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, trade, manufacturing and Tourism. The States’ Flower is the Mayflower, and the State Bird is the Chickadee. Massachusetts’ motto is “Ense Petit Placidam Sub Libertate Quietem.” (which means by the sword we speak peace, but peace only under liberty.
