Lexington, which was established in 1775 and incorporated in 1781, is located in the center of the state, East of Louisville. It has an estimated population of 225, 366 people and an approximate size of 284 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, government, wholesale and retail trade. It is home to the University
of Kentucky and Transylvania University.
