Wichita, which was founded in 1868 and incorporated in 1871, is located in the center of the state, on the South side. It has an estimated population of 304, 011 people and an approximate size of 115.5 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, trade and manufacturing. It is home to the Wichita State University, the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, Friends University and Kansas Newman College.
