Springfield, which was founded in 1818 and incorporated in 1832, is located in the center of the state, South of Peoria. It has an estimated population of 105, 227 people and an approximate size of 42.5 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of government, services, wholesale and retail trade. It is home top Sangamon State University, Lincoln Land Community College and the Southern Illinois School of Medicine.
