Miami, which was established in 1836 and incorporated in 1896, is located on the South East corner of Florida, just North of the Florida Keys. It has an estimated population of 358, 548 people and an approximate size of 35.6 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, government, tourism, wholesale and retail trade. It is home to the University of Miami, Florida International University, Barry university and St. Thomas University.
