Mobile, which was established in 1702 and incorporated in 1819, is located on the south-western edge of Alabama, on the Gulf of Mexico. It has an estimated population of 196, 278 people and an approximate size of 118 square miles. The economy is primarily made up of services, government, wholesale and retail trade. It is home to the University of South Alabama, Mobile College and Spring Hill College.
